Description
The “1817”, Eversbusch Doppelwachholder as a 56% distillate with an incomparable juniper aroma in a manufactory clay jug. Lovers of an unadulterated and strong juniper flavor – which of course goes just as well, if not better, with tonic as the 46% double juniper– are offered something extraordinary. And beyond the usual “botanical”-overloaded fashionable gins.
It goes without saying that no chemicals are used in production; Eversbusch only uses raw materials that were used 200 years ago. The Eversbusch “1817” is best compared with navy strength gins. When it is empty, the rustic manufactory clay jug can be reused as a water carafe or flower vase. It’s actually too good to throw away.
The brothers Christoph and Peter Eversbusch are now the sixth generation to run their family business in Hagen-Haspe in Westphalia, which was founded in 1780. Since 1817, double juniper has been distilled there according to the same recipe of their great-great-great-grandfather Eversbusch and bottled in traditional earthenware jugs. The trading relationship with the supplier of juniper berries from Tuscany is now also in its fourth generation. This expressive juniper distillate based on a fine rye spirit is, so to speak, a “craft gin” avant la lettre.
In Peter Eversbusch’s words: “Of course we could also write gin on it, but we haven’t done that for 200 years.”
We at pHenomenal Drinks have had Eversbusch with us at our tastings for years, and we always take great pleasure in knocking supposed gin experts on the head with this outstanding juniper.
