Kinky Pear Spritz
150 ml sparkling mineral water
30 ml pHenomenal Tonic Syrup
30 ml L.N. Mattei Cap Corse
10 ml Käppler Williamsbrand
Serve over ice cubes in a large wine glass.
This refreshing spritz combines light bitter notes from the tonic with a subtle sweetness,
tastes like biting into a fully ripe pear, is pretty orange,
and with a total of only 4.2% alcohol a wonderful light summer drink.
The name is derived from quinquina (kinky) and pear brandy (pear).
While searching whether the name Kinky Pear already exists for a cocktail, I came across this:
“Kink pairs” are a concept from materials science and crystallography, particularly in connection with dislocation theory, which describes how crystals deform.
Briefly explained:
– Dislocations are defects in a crystal lattice that allow materials to deform plastically (e.g. bend or stretch).
– In certain materials, the movement of a dislocation through the lattice is difficult, e.g. due to energetic obstacles (known as Peierls barrier).
– Instead of moving all at once, the movement of the dislocation occurs piece by piece, through the formation of kink pairs.
Okay, none of this has anything to do with our topic, but it’s still exciting.
